Backgroud StoryA tamagotchi is a "cyber creature who has traveled millions of miles from its home planet to learn what life is like on earth" (Bandai 1996). A professor , Mikachu and his assistant found these creatures and brought them back to their lab where they built little egg shaped protection cases so they could survive here on earth. Mikachu painted the eggs and gave the out to children at his school. If its keeper gives these virtual creatures the proper care and feeding, they will grow into different shapes and personalities depending on the level of care given by its keeper. One earth day equals one Tamagotchi year. A Tamagotchi can live to be 31 years old if given the proper attention it needs. Because a Tamagotchi need constant attention, once it is wakened form its million year sleep by removing the insulation sheet you can not turn the creature off. If ignored it will turn into an unattractive alien for so to return to his home planet. By pressing the rest button you can wake another Tamagotchi from its sleep and hopefully this time you will be more carrying to your virtual pet. Note: The initial Tamagotchi model showed a tomb followed by ghosts and angels. This has now been changed to a starry setting with an angel. Bandai got too many complaints about this as some children had a hard time dealing with the fact that the Tamagotchi had died. Bandai changes model in which the Tamagotchi character is seen flying back to its planet in a spaceship-like vehicle. |
