The Osutchi/Mesutchi Tamagotchi is a set of Tamagotchis that were the first to feature breeding. The difference with these to the Connection era is that the Osutchi could only raise males, and the Mesutchi could only raise females. The connection type was also by metal contacts instead of IR. It was released in Japan in December 20, 1997. It was never released internationally. It came in 5 regular shell sets where the male and female versions had coordinating color schemes. There was also a 1 year anniversary shell set, and a special prototype shell set that is incredibly rare with a special mating animation.

Startup
When you startup your Osu/Mesu, you will see a bouncing egg on the screen. Press the B button to go to the time screen. Use the A button to set the hour. Use the B button to set the minutes. Press C when you have entered the correct time.

After a few minutes, your tama will hatch.

Status
The status menu will show you information about your Osu/Mesu. You can see the age, weight, humger, happiness, and Tama Power.

Food
The food menu allows you to feed your Osu/Mesu. The meal will fill one hungry heart. The snack will fill one happy heart.

Game
The game icon will let you play a game with your Osu/Mesu. This is a flag game that makes it look like you have to guess which flag your tama will hold up, but it has a trick to it. Hit the A button to choose the left flag, or the B button to choose the right flag. Time your choice to when your tama lifts up that flag. So you can choose the same flag over and over as long as you time it with your tama's corresponding flag. You will need to choose correctly at least 3 out of 5 times to win.

Toilet
Use this icon to clean up poop.

Discipline
Sometimes, your Osu/Mesu will misbehave. Use this icon to discipline it, and raise the discipline meter.

Medicine
Your Osu/Mesu can become sick. Use this icon to give it medicine and cure it. This can take multiple doses.

Light
Your Osu/Mesu will need you to turn out the light when it goes to bed. Use this option to turn the light off. The light will automatically turn on when it wakes up.

Tama Power (TMP)
The Osu/Mesu works over generations with three Tama Power Levels. It starts at TMP 1 for the first generation, TMP 2 for the second generation, and TMP 3 for the third generation. So if you are on TMP 1, you can only get the TMP 1 characters. It's like having three different growth charts based upon which generation you are playing. See the growth chart below to see the characters.

Connect
This option is only available to use during the adult phase. This is how you get your Osu and Mesu to get to know each other, and eventually breed for the next generation. Once they mate, the Mesutchi will go into labor (yes, there is a whole flip out animation for this), and she will give birth to two babies, not eggs. The male will get sent over to the Osutchi, while the female stays with the Mesutchi. The parents will stay for a while, and "help" you care for the baby.

Attention
When your Osu/Mesu needs something, it will call for you, and this icon will light up.

Set clock
Hit the B button on the character screen to go to the clock screen. Press the A and C button simultaneously to enter the set time mode. Use the A button to set the hour, and the B button to set the minutes. Press C when you have entered the correct time. Press B to go back to the character screen.

Mute Sound
On the character screen, press the A and C buttons simultaneously. Press again the turn the sound back on.
